Khadas launches M2X Extension Board for VIM3.
This picture should clear up the reasons why a larger board to mount SSDs is required. That being said, you can also find a compatible PCI-E riser cable to plug-in SSDs into your VIM3, without using the M2X Extension Board.

WARNING
VIM3 can simultaneously use both Ethernet ports (1Gbit & 100Mbit), when connected to the M2X Extension Board.
Edge-V can only use the SSD feature, when connected to the M2X Extension Board. The Ethernet port can receive electrical power, but no network data input.
